Is this album as bad as I remember…?

I used to have this CD when I was a kid because I flipped out over this song all those years ago, but I thought the rest of the album sucked, so I eventually sold it. Shockingly enough the chorus to this fucker is still burned into my memory, even though I haven't heard the song in at least 10 years and can barely remember what the hell I ate for lunch yesterday. Weird. I dunno... should I revisit the album, or does someone have a solid quality mp3 of this track they can hook me up with?

  1. I don’t know what’s funnier/weirder…that this dude is now in Circus Diablo, or that he was in New Model Army.

  2. Neither.  This is:

Warwick is good friends with the singer Joe Elliot, having performed backup vocals on Def Leppard albums, whilst Elliot has returned the favour on his…

  4. I ordered that album last week from ebay funnily enough, in what has become an obsessive attempt to obtain CDs/mp3s of every original and copied cassette album I owned in my youth! (I consigned them to trash in a highly emotional ceremony last March). It’s being sent to my parents address in the UK for me to pick up in December (I live in Sydney, Aus). I could get the track to you in the new year?

Revisit this album and the Crank album (1996 ?) especially for the awesome track Jonestown Mind! Did you know Ricky Warwick is touring Europe this year with Keith Caputo (Life of Agony)? Funny pairing, I thought.

  5. On the early/mid ‘90s European MTV Headbanger’s Ball Ricky Warwick’s wife Vanessa was the host. So she’d plug this band to no end. Didn’t like em back then, and hearing it again doesn’t change my opinion. Funky to see/hear tho, brings back memories, hahaha…

  6. I hardly ever post, but I’m a long time reader of the site. This vid brings back a flood of memories from when I was stationed in England in the early 90’s. I was fortunate enough to see The Almighty/The Wildhearts play in Cambridge and it was one of the most incredible shows I’ve ever witnessed, and I’ve been to tons of ‘em. I totally agree with Adam G. - seek out “Crank” at all costs. It’s been 13 years, but it still gets plenty of play time in my iPod every single month. It was, in my opinion, their watershed album and one that they would never match again. It’s worth every penny if you can get your hands on it.

I was looking forward to seeing Circus Diablo at Ozzfest this year, but by the time they hit San Antonio they had already dropped off the bill. From what I’ve seen, I didn’t miss much, but it still would have been nice to see Ricky tear it up one more time.

  9. Holy fucking shit. This is amazing—best thing this side of Saigon Kick. How in the HELL did I completely miss the boat on this band? I mean, literally, I have never heard of them. Maybe it’s a UK / US thing?

Upon further research, according to allmusic.com: “The Almighty were among a number of ‘90s British hard rock bands (also including the Wildhearts, Wolfsbane and Thunder to name but a few), which received extremely enthusiastic reviews in their homeland but achieved little or no success in America. Much of the blame for this certainly lies with the over-patriotic British press, but in the Almighty’s case, the greater problem may have been that its members were mostly veterans of the punk scene role-playing as a heavy metal band for fashion’s sake. Sadly, by the time they decided to drop these pretenses and return to their roots, the group’s 15 minutes of fame were almost up.”

Well anyway… thanks for turning me on to these guys… Amazon/Ebay here I come…

  10. [...] No, not the power that be in the heavens — the kick ass U.K. hard rock group The Almighty who were huge in their homeland in the early ’90s but made nary an impact on American soil. Aversionline webmaster and MetalSucks commenter Andrew wrote a post about the Almighty last week, and I’m embarrassed to admit that when I read the column today it was the first time I’d ever heard about this group. The Almighty seem to be the U.K.’s answer to Saigon Kick, though I’m sure someone who knows more about them can correct me and point to elements of their catalogue other than the video for “Addiction,” reposted from Aversionline below. Fans of Saigon Kick, Skid Row and King’s X are sure to love The Almighty. -VN [...]

  11. It’s funny - because KISS totally imitated this sound on their 90’s songs like “Master and Slave”, I can’t listen to this now without thinking it sounds totally like KISS.
