Song of the Day: Abuse of Power, “Plead,” from Demo 2016 (Self-Released, 2016)

Thanks to Nine Eyes for the tip on this killer new hardcore band out of Atlanta that strikes me as a mix of Judge via Mouthpiece plus a dash of Outspoken or early Strife. This would've been right at home as a 7" on New Age Records circa 1994, right?

I don't hear a lot of hardcore in this style these days, where they take that classic, old school type of approach and slow it down just a touch so that everything tends to center around a punchy midpaced tempo—slightly heavier, but metal-free. Nice, solid production, too—and holy shit do these cats have the powerful bass breaks down cold!

Grab Abuse of Power's three-song demo as a name your price download on Bandcamp, and keep an eye out for more...

  1. Ok…after seeing their logo, and listening to this song, the has to be some tie to the old Act Of Faith or Crisis Under Control crew. I’d love to find out the connection. Where can I find out more about this band (i.e. Members)?

  3. Hey Eric. I play bass in the band. We aren’t too close to those guys due to the age gap. But we draw a lot of influence from act of faith/ex members of.. thanks for noticing!
