Sporting a head-scratcher of a band name that may well have cost them the wider recognition they deserved, Fort Lauderdale, FL thrash act Amboog-a-lard is perhaps best-known for having featured in its ranks future Marilyn Manson bassist Jeordie White (a.k.a. Twiggy Ramirez)—who played guitar on Amboog-a-lard's two demos before switching to bass for their lone full-length, A New Hope, in 1993.
I'm absolutely not one of those "the demo was better" types, but with these guys, well... I must admit, the demos were better. The album's fine and all, but the demos absolutely destroy. They're more focused and powerful, hell... they even sound better! (This outing was produced by Tom Morris at the almighty Morrisound.)
"Edge of Darkness" is the opening track from the band's first demo, and it's a flawless example of the meaty early-'90s thrash that I consistently go nuts for. I mean, come on: when one guitar holds chords while the other rippingly chugs away—panned, no less—it just melts my heart. Perfection.

I remember trading their demo stuff back in the day. Someone in the band also introduced me to Raped Ape, another south Florida thrash band I used to dig.

Rudzinski needs to make an Amboog-a-lard discography happen to go alongside that Raped Ape set!
