I have to give massive, gracious thanks to Gergő Hájer from Omega Diatribe for his list of 10 Hungarian Metal Bands a few weeks ago, 'cause Apey & The Pea has been seriously kicking my ass all over the place ever since, and I'm reaching super colossal freakout-level enthusiasm about this band!
The Budapest, Hungary trio cranks out absolutely mind-blowing, grunge-tinged sludge/doom with the emotional, rocked out swing of something akin to Deliverance-era C.O.C. Great riffs, great vocals, and great songwriting packed with dense, churning heaviness and dissonant little twists and turns. They've self-released an EP and two full-lengths since 2011, and how a label has yet to swoop in on 'em is beyond me!?
I listen to so much music that I don't go back for immediate repeated spins very often, but I find myself coming back to Hellish over and over again as of late. It's just that good.
Check out Hellish on Spotify, or—better yet—stream or purchase Apey & The Pea's entire discography via Bandcamp.
