Song of the Day: Bluto's Revenge, “10,000 Heads,” from Dark Empire Strikes Back (Dark Empire, 1994)

Just one of many standout tracks on an overall fantastic compilation of Cleveland acts, this underrated masterpiece (as evidenced by the fact that it only exists on MySpace, of all sources) from Bluto's Revenge is among the few that falls on more of the punk rock side of the fence.

A nice and compact, less-than-three-minute dose of roaring basslines and one hell of an infectious chorus, every single time this song comes across my iPod, I end up listening to it three or four times in a row—and it remains stuck in my head for hours after the fact.

"10,000 Heads" also appeared on the band's second album, King of the Popes, but despite first raving about this track six years ago, I (pathetically enough) still haven't explored the group's earliest work. That being said, a couple of their more recent efforts are on Spotify, so... at least that's a start!
