Review: Deride “s/t” LP

Blistering hardcore/punk from Japan with plenty of pissed off rock 'n' roll injected in the form of fiery lead bursts and a scarce few slightly slower chord progressions that show off more of a rock vibe. But, for the most part, you're in for raging fast chord progressions with relentless yelling vocals. There's definitely an old school hardcore influence happening as well, on the more aggressive side of things, as some of the chord progressions and especially the bass breaks definitely remind me of that whole style. Most of the songs sound fairly similar to one another, with a little variety in breaking off some faster vocal patterns and more memorable arrangements thanks to the barely slower breaks and rock 'n' roll snippets. Some of the material on side B is a little "catchier" (for lack of a better term), but it's a damn consistent listen. The production is on the noisy side, but it works for the most part. I think vocals and drums are too dominant so the guitars aren't as central as I'd prefer, and I don't make out as much of the pounding bass sound as I usually enjoy with this stuff, but it's there thickening things up. I have no real problems with it, but if the mix was a little more even they'd be better off. The slightly rough textures don't matter at all, that's fine. The LP is housed in a straightforward sleeve with high contrast graphics and minimal use of color. The insert is very similar in appearance, and includes the lyrics, but all of the lyrics are in Japanese so I can't read a word of it. Overall it looks a little plain to me, but the cover is decent and it gets the job done in the end. It's a brief LP so it's over in a flash, but I like it. I'm not blown away, but there's some good stuff here, and I like the pissed off energy of it all. I wish I could say more, but since the vast majority of the song titles are Japanese and all of the lyrics are in Japanese there's only so much I can specify!
