I would not have expected to be writing about such a selection at this point in my life, but believe it or not, there was a time when I was at least mildly enamored by brutal underground goregrind. A friend of mine casually mentioned Embryonic Cryptopathia to me last week, and what can I say? They definitely take me back to a time when bands like Lymphatic Phlegm were crossing my path with some regularity.
As with most such bands, Embryonic Cryptopathia do not appear to have been concerned with innovation; spewing forth short, listenably-produced nuggets that follow goregrind's patented framework of taking Reek of Putrefaction to the next level of over the top extremity. But I always say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," and in this case, the formula is nailed. (Uterine Excretor of Carcinovomit's fantastic band logo and simple, effective cover art don't hurt, either!)
