My iTunes library is loaded with hours and hours of songs from '80s and early-'90s movie soundtracks, where Eric Martin makes several appearances (Iron Eagle, Caddyshack II, etc.)—including this scorcher from Teachers (a film I'm not even sure I've seen) that recently sent me down a terrific rabbit hole.
"I Can't Stop the Fire" kept popping up during shuffle play, until one day I said to myself, "Okay, this song fucking rules, I've gotta look up this Eric Martin dude."
Cue internal dialogue:
Oh, shit, he's the singer from Mr. Big!? How the hell did I not make that connection? Do I need to check out Mr. Big? I might need to check out Mr. Big!?
Okay, so in some instances this song is credited as "Eric Martin & Friends", what's up with that?
Wait... what?
Neal fucking Schon from Journey is involved!? And Neal Schon did a band with Jan Hammer!?
Yeah, Schon was in Hardline, too, they're great. HSAS, yep, they're solid. But did I ever hear much Bad English?
Holy shit! John Waite sang for Bad English!? What's wrong with me!?
And on and on...
Purchases made. Quality of life improved.
I guess it's true:
I CAN'T STOP THE FIRE!
Comments
shit, of course this is a b-side to the album he released back then. and the Teachers soundtrack is out of print. hahaha. 38 Special’s track on that soundtrack rules too.
