I hate the sound of my own voice…

This weekend (Saturday the 5th at 10:00am EST) I'll be completely embarrassing myself in audio as a guest on the next Live Fast Racing podcast—which will be an "all music" edition, somewhat of a "year in review" type of thing, if you will. Of course, it's already 2008, I've only got two days to go, and I still haven't decided what my favorite albums of 2007 were, so... needless to say I'm less than prepared, but... my procrastination rarely fails me, so... as long as I force myself to refresh my memory a bit, I'll be fine. Maybe. I think. If for some strange reason you happen to be awake, alert, and online at 10:00am on a Saturday morning, you can listen live at this location, and I believe the archived podcast should show up at that same link sometime after the fact. Expect "ummms" and "uhhhs" aplenty, as well as lots of "foul language", I'm sure.

Shadows Fall will definitely get best album cover of the year from me, though. No doubt about it. (Sarcasm? What?)

  1. everybody hates the way they sound when they listen to themselves on a recording. it’s a sonic “phenomenon”, but it’s not real. the “real” sound of your voice is the one you hear when you listen to yourself speak, and that’s the one the others hear too. so don’t worry about it.

    that’s 4am in GMT+1, i’ll try to be there. :p

  3. Looking forward to hearing that (the archived podcast that is).

Shadows Fall, I only know one song played by them and it’s a cover. You can guess which one Andrew ;)

  4. Can’t wait to hear it!  I’ll be there (virtually, of course)!!

If I had to pick a favorite from this site in the last year, it would still definitely be the Geisha CD.  That is probably my favorite CD from something like the last 5 years… and I have this site to thank - I haven’t seen it reviewed in any of the other music sites I frequent or magazines I buy.

  5. I know it’ll sound belligerent, but what chris said about one’s own voice being the “normal” one simply isn’t true. People really do hear a different voice on recording than the one they’re used to because while listening to yourself speak, there are plenty of other sonic factors, such as your jaw bones resonating and the doppler effect as the sound moves away from your ears (rather than towards, which speakers are designed to do, and which the doppler effect dictates results in a perceived higher pitch).

But anyway, hope the show went well!

  6. no prob, man. but which one is the real one then? ‘cause i think most will agree they sound nasal, high-pitched (“younger”) and retarded when they listen to themselves on a recording, me included. i’d hate to think that that’s the “real” voice (i.e. the voice the person you’re talking to hears).

    a combination of the two?
