Song of the Day: Krupskaya, “Contaminated Dead Atmosphere,” from Sandokhan/Krupskaya Split (7 Degrees, 2010)

UK outfit Krupskaya performs grind of the dizzyingly fast and terrifyingly explosive variety. Their most recent release from 2010 being my personal favorite—and largely because of this track, which injects rare moments of slower-paced breathing room and dark, dingy melody that really stands out amidst the furious whirlwinds of slashing riffs and jackhammer blasts.

That being said, while I tend to tire of any take on extreme music that focuses on a relentlessly fast and in your face attack, there's just something about the sheer unhinged ferocity of Krupskaya's work—not to mention their intriguing song titles and killer visual aesthetic—that keeps things a little more interesting.
