Thank you, Trevor Strnad's "Obituarist" column at Metal Injection, for tipping me off to this incredible outing. From Stockholm, Sweden, of all places, comes a band that has somehow managed to do Suicidal Tendencies better than Suicidal Tendencies has done in, like, 20 years!?
Featuring former Dr. Living Dead! vocalist Andreas Sandberg, Negative Self's debut outing on High Roller Records is straight up Suicidal worship on every level—specifically circa How Will I Laugh Tomorrow... and Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit... Déjà Vu, bleeding ever so slightly into Lights, Camera, Revolution territory.
The riffs; the solos; the lyrics, vocals, and vocal arrangements... they nailed it. Every bit of it. It's almost shocking. I'll take this over "originality" any day! How could any fan of Suicidal's early "metal era" not flip the hell out over this!? I mean, hot damn! I never cared for Dr. Living Dead!, but Negative Self is absolutely amazing!
The album's available on CD and vinyl (or digitally via Bandcamp and the like), though I'm having a hard time finding the CD for a decent price in the US, so I might have to cop one straight from the label in Germany.

Now this is more like it…..Originality be damned!!!
And what makes it even better is that I’ve recently visited Stockholm and it’s such a cool place. T-shirt ordered from their bigcartel site.
