Rafflesia “Embrace the Final Day” CD

Rafflesia - Embrace the Final Day"Embrace the Final Day" is the debut full-length from Rafflesia (on Genet Records), one of the new breed of H8000 metalcore bands from Belgium. And of course this means their sound is far more metal than hardcore, taking the scathing screams/growls, chugging rhythms, and thick death metal-esque picking patterns and note-based riffs of that 90's era of European metalcore and blending in a more contemporary form of dissonance (and sporadic guitar solos) with touches of Swedish-infused melodic attributes. They don't take the melodic Swedish angle too far, however, so thankfully most of the riffs are built around that dense core of chunky power chords and churning tremolo picking runs with occasional hints of powerful breakdowns and even a few quick little clean breaks. I don't even know what more to say, really. Solid recording with a good level of crisp, clear density and just the right amount of added thump from the bass presence, solid layout with cool looking artwork that matches the apocalyptic tone of the lyrical content... that about does it. It's not a particularly diverse album, but neither were the early classics from the H8000 scene, so that's not an issue at all. This is a strong debut that should appeal to most listeners that have been interested in the H8000 niche over the years, as well as some of those who may be too young to really be aware of it!

I'm not seeing this one around at any US distros yet, so you'll have to keep checking around in the coming months. Until then, you can grab it from Genet's massive online store at Pyrrhus:

  1. I like this band, sounds like they’ve progressed a lot from their EP which had a bit more old caliban/arkangel vibe.

I want this, but Genet are soooooooooooooooooooooo slow in responding!!!

  2. i will never buy at Pyrrhus. First of all the prices are too fucking big. i mean it’s more than 15 € for a CD? Are they insane. And I only receive one mail from them, they usually don’t have soemthing, i write them back for alternatives and no response. This is not hardcore, this are some money grabbers bussines overy everything bitches… fuck that!!!

  3. Money grabbers, hmmmm. You try importing cd’s and other stuff from the US and putting it in stores at a lower price, and then we’ll talk…

Anyway, here’s the direct link to the RAFFLESIA cd, only 11€

  5. Hey, man, you gotta pay for the good stuff.  And if they didn’t make money on it, it would be that much harder to find and, therefore, much more expensive.  I’m sure Genet Records have better things to do than browse the blogosphere to service abusive trolls.

  6. i don’t have an issue with their prices at all (pyrrhus) but i have to say that i have never felt safe to order from them because i have tried to contact them with questions about ordering or stock availability over the years and i have never once gotten a response, which i guess is similar to what anonymous said above.  there have been times when i have seen rare items in their catalog that i’d love to get, but if i can’t get an email response from a mailorder that is a sketchy sign to me, i have to say. they seem like good guys so i don’t understand why the email contact is not so good.

  7. I 100% agree on pyrrhus. High prices, very bad communication. But at least they have a lot to pick. Maybe too much considering their respones…

  8. All information considering stock availability is on our website. If you’re not able to click an “add to cart” icon, then it’s not available. Couldn’t be any more simple.

  9. yeah but when you maybe don’t have something although you can add item to cart i receive one response and then i want take something else i don’t receive any more mails… so…

  10. Didn’t dig on Rafflesia that much, but ended on Pyrrhus store and ordered bunch of hard to find vinyls. We’ll see how my order proceeds.

  11. And i have to add that the prices were quite allright thinking what stuff they have, ofc i wouldn’t pay 40 to 50 euros of some records, but then again if you’re a diehard fan or collector at least there’s a chance to aquire one of early prints / rare prints on some record.

  12. Genet Records is backed 100%. Great guys.

  13. I still laugh at the name of this band since these dudes are named after a parasitic vine.  It has one of the largest flowers in the world.  Only a botany nerd like myself would know that.  Dig their sound, never used the Pyrrhus store.
