Song of the Day: Red Pill Down, “Bound,” from Paradigms Lost (Self-Released, 2003)

10+ years ago when I was writing damn near 100 record reviews a month, I didn't get a lot of alternative/borderline nu-metal that I actually liked. But I was surprisingly impressed by this EP from northern Virginia's Red Pill Down back then, and I'm still surprisingly impressed now.

When "Bound" opens up at 2:00 in, damn, I just love it. The track's greatest flaw is that this, its hookiest moment, never once repeats!? In seven minutes!? Go figure.

I know it's not for everyone, but I like what I like, and can't help but think that this band should've/could've been so much more. I mean, Lacuna Coil was doing pretty well in the early- to mid-2000s, right? And this ain't too far a stretch from that general niche, is it?

  1. Wow, thanks for this post. I just randomly searched to see if there was any online posting of Bound to link to (looking for a new band, trying to find some easily accessible samples) and this popped up. I remember the review you wrote. Thanks for the repost.
