Song of the Day: Society Sucker, “Burdened,” from Society Sucker (Get This Right, 2014)

It's hard to keep up with hardcore these days. There are tons and tons of bands in a variety of niches and offshoots, but every now and then something jumps out and grabs my attention.

Such is the case with the self-titled proper debut from Wilmington, NC's Society Sucker—who one can only assume borrowed their moniker from the Agnostic Front song of the same name. Released just last week on Get This Right Records, the EP is packed with five tracks—like "Burdened"—of short, pissed off, and to the point metallic hardcore.

When it comes to this NYHC-influenced brand of the genre, innovation tends to be of little concern. Solid grooves, great production, gruff vocals, bitter lyrics... Society Sucker keeps it simple and totally hits the mark. I'm in.

The 7" is available now on seafoam green, gold/yellow clear, or black vinyl; or you can grab the tunes digitally via Bandcamp.
