I can't believe a Google search for these guys only returns two or three accurate results, one of which is from a review on my site. You'd think there'd at least be a couple of mentions of demos on trade lists or something, but apparently not. That being said, I don't really know much about Structure Twentyfour anyway. They were from northern Virginia and formed in the early-90's, releasing at least one demo prior to the "In Our Disposition" cassette, which came out on $iege Records in 1994. As you'd probably guess from the band name, they bore the tagline "Virginia Straightedge", and their music and lyrics were a pretty good representation of that whole scene at this particular time: Way more metal than hardcore (without being too far gone) with a pretty good blend of dissonant melodies and chunky power chords, lyrics that wandered from socio-political to personal issues, etc. I don't really remember how I came across this tape when I was a kid, but despite its fairly rough (though very tolerable) sound quality I always dug it, and "For Shame" definitely remains a favorite of mine. I don't know, there are just some interesting traits here that weren't overly typical back in the day. The last track below is just some unlisted silliness that comes after the final song on the tape, but I'm a huge nerd, so I ripped it and included it just 'cause it's there:
1. "Wrong/Tear at the Mountain"
2. "For Shame"
3. "Underestimate"
4. "Hypocrite's Rage"
5. "Memories All Burn"
6. "The BDC Props Song" (unlisted)
I think this was the last thing the band released, but I could be wrong. Their vocalist "Aaron Edge" Connell ended up relocating a lot and being involved in loads of solid bands like Anonymous, Christ, Genuine, Grip, Harkonen, Himsa, and numerous others. He's currently working with both Grievous and Iamthethorn (and yes, he's still straightedge), which you can check out through his website. I have no real clue what happened to anyone else in the band, though.
And judging from the aforementioned lack of Google hits on Structure Twentyfour, it's probably safe to say that you won't be able to get your hands on an original copy of this tape unless you really scour the hell out of eBay or track down someone in the band that might happen to have one or two leftover.

Not bad Andrew, I’ve taken this for my IPOD, so thanxxx for another obscure gem ;) - btw - I just heard that Filled With Hate are going to release a fury of V CD in the summer - it will have material from the reflections of reality demo???? ANy idea about that one???

first the autumn 7” and then the Structure 24 comp! wow these are some serious blasts from the pasts from my heyday. crazy. Aaron Edge actually spent some time in Autumn and he actually got the logo from that 7” tattooed around his wrist when they stayed in Erie PA once.

Ben, I hadn’t heard about that but it better include “The High Cost of Dying” demo and all those rare comp tracks, too. ‘Cause the recording on the “Reflections…” demo is pretty rough and all the songs were re-recorded for “No Reason to Smile”! Hopefully it’s an early discography because that would kill. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for info on that…
EMS, I had no idea he was in Autumn, too. Damn that dude’s been everywhere!

i used to penpal/email one of the dudes from structure24, his name was Clinty i think? i had met him thru the straightedge email list (sxe-l) in the mid 90s. i also may have another structure24 demo laying around as well.
as i recall, clinty was also in some band from that era called blindside (how many bands have there been with that title?)

Hell yeah, I remember chadski! Hey everyone. This is Clint from the 24.
I just happened to find the DATs of the recordings in my attic, next to my drum kit :(
To make a long story short, I just got them transferred onto my computer. When we released “In Our Disposition”, we totally got screwed from Lion and Fox in northern Virginia (the ones who pressed our tapes) and the quality came out like shit. Anyhow, I was feeling rather nostalgic while hearing these songs and did a google search, and kind of laughed when I saw what the author had said about not finding anything online. 12 years ago, wow.
Anyhow, the news on Aaron is correct, I keep in touch with him online. Mike (guitar) lives in Richmond with his wife and 3 year old boy, Mike is still in school, I think for some serious chemistry stuff. Matt (bass) lives in Loudon county with his wife, he does computer work in Tysons. Jamie (guitar) is in the Air Force and is stationed in Ohio with his wife and two boys. Myself, I’ve been in Richmond since 1996. I’m married as well and have a 14 month old little girl. Oddly enough, I’m now a wine importer/salesman. What was that “never cease to be”, bah, forget about that.
I pretty much quit playing when I moved here. I was in a band post s24, we were called Carbondale, did a few shows up north, but my heart just wasn’t in it anymore. Real good stuff though, somewhat typical “post hardcore” style, but quite unique.
chadski, I’m sure you are having a hard time reading my writing since it’s not in ALL CAPS. :)
Cheers to the fellow who runs this blog for the review a decade later.
Be well everyone.

Damn, small world. I played in Grip with Aaron, and we still keep in touch. Ran into Mike a few times recently, he lives down the street from me in Richmond. We had a good laugh about how funny it was that we were talking about hardcore while pushing our kids on the swing at the playground!
I still have this demo tape…..

I realize this is petty however… Aaron Edge, you have not been vegan 16 years. I remember giving you advice in ‘93. Bill Theidman has been for 16. I have been for about 14. On a more positive note, I saw your myspace page… I like your art. Coffee is not edge.

dearest thomas:
—i have been vegan for 13 of those 16 years… but thank you for playing and paying attention
