When a band emails us and describes their work as "in the vein of Crowbar, Disembodied, and all those cool guys from the '90s," I'll take the bait almost every damn time.
It turns out, Saint Petersburg, Russia's Stubborn has indeed amassed a nice little discography of splits and EPs since 2013, and their Crowbar/Disembodied assessment was fairly on point. (I can hear some Dead City, too—always a plus.)
So far, my favorite of their releases is 2014's Discontent Hostility Coarseness—combining that massive, winding, Crowbar-ish sense of dissonant melody with burly vocals and churning, midpaced rhythms. Strong production, bitter lyrics... I'm sold. What's not to love? Every track's a winner, so it was hard to decide on "Pressed by Weight of Conscience" as today's selection (check out its video, too).
You can find the group's entire discography to date as name your price downloads on Bandcamp, so get crackin'. If you're a fan of sludgy, hard-hitting, and hateful metalcore, there's no excuse not to check 'em out!
