Song of the Day: The Isley Brothers, “Good Hands,” from Wildcats (Warner Bros., 1986)

Since my last foray into this general realm with B.B. King's "Into the Night" was such a smashing success (A whopping 11 views to date!), I thought to myself, "Why not waste a few more minutes of your time writing a little something about another random tune that folks should—but won't—give a listen to?"

Fuck it. Let's do it.

I'm not well-versed in The Isley Brothers' discography, so I can't sit here and run my mouth about their Motown years. No, in typical fashion, my primary concern is this lesser-known soundtrack gem that dropped towards the tail end of the Isleys' initial three-decade run.

The lead track from the Wildcats soundtrack in 1986, "Good Hands" was written by Hawk Wolinski and James Newton Howard (the former also co-wrote Rufus & Chaka Khan's masterpiece "Ain't Nobody"), and was The Isley Brothers' last recording to feature eldest brother O'Kelly Isley, Jr. (who died of a heart attack in March of '86).

It's a fun 'n' funky R&B/pop goldmine, and being from the '80s, of course there's even a guitar solo. What can I say? If this doesn't put a little smile on your face, there's something wrong with you...
