I was slowly trying to work up a list of contemporary European metallic hardcore bands that are effectively capturing the essence of the '90s, but it was taking longer than anticipated. Paris, France quartet The Worst Doubt was most definitely going to hold a spot, though, so I wanted to go ahead and give them a shout.
Take the modern groove of top-shelf bands like Trapped Under Ice (but with a darker, bitter edge), vicious breaks reminiscent of French legends Kickback, leads akin to classic Fury of Five—shit, even their logo and cover art would've been right at home on an Inner Rage Records 7" circa 1992! Slick drumming with just enough flare to catch your ear, too. One hell of a debut, I can't wait to hear more.
Pick up the cassette from Straight & Alert Records, or grab it as a name your price download from either the band or the label.
Oh, they also had some production and mastering help from James Kent (a.k.a. Perturbator), so there's another curious tidbit!
