Song of the Day: Thine, “Take the Risk” (2011)

This is an unreleased demo track recorded back in 2011 after Thine reformed to begin working on a follow-up to their vastly underrated 2002 masterpiece, In Therapy. Despite it having been posted to YouTube about two years ago, I didn't stumble across it until last summer, at which point it immediately crushed my life in the best possible way, so I've listened to it a million times since.

The slightly rough-around-the-edges demo characteristics can't hold back the song's surging energy or immediate emotional connection. And holy shit that chorus... I mean... fucking outstanding! I'm a sucker for that combination of somber/depressing tonality with singalong vocal harmonies. This may very well be the band's finest composition to date.

Apparently their forthcoming album, The Dead City Blueprint, has finally been granted a release date of April 28th via Peaceville, which can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned. Fingers crossed that a fully fleshed out rendition of "Take the Risk" makes an appearance!
