Trial by Jury was a fairly short-lived metallic hardcore band from Hampton, VA that was a little before my time—having broken up a couple of years before I really started going to shows—so I only began to encounter their music about four years ago thanks to killer blogs like One Path for Me Through Destiny. The band released a demo, two 7"s, a full-length, and had one compilation appearance (which I believe hit the streets after they had already called it quits sometime in '93).
"Hasn't Ended Yet" is a perfect slab of early-'90s metallic hardcore from their demo, and represents a style that I sorely miss these days. I mean, half of the song (nearly two minutes) is a chunky, mosh-laden intro—a tactic I associate more with thrash metal, though this is very much a hardcore song at its heart—loaded with some pretty badass rhythmic grooves; and the entire piece is just littered with plunky basslines and occasional divebombs. Flawless chorus, too.
Overly simplistic? Perhaps. A little dated? Yeah, I guess. But who gives a shit!? It's awesome!
